Though
pretty much unknown to oncologists (cancer physicians) and the media,
scientists have long shown that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), found in
milk and cheese, reduces the proliferation of cancer cells.
The reports have been pouring in; Nutr. Cancer in l993 & l996, Cancer Research 1990 & '91, Carcinogenisis l990, '93 & '95, Lipids l997 & '98, Journal of Food Composition l992, etc., etc. Medical practice remains oblivious to medical science! That is, when it comes to food. When it involves chemotherapy drugs, surgery and radiation--some of them are actually up-to-date!
Now CLA has gotten another boost in Nutrition and Cancer, vol. 33, l999*, which reports that one way that it attacks cancer is by inhibiting PGE2 (prostaglandin E2) which by the way, is also what aspirin and it's spin-offs, ifbuprofen, naproxen, sulindac, and the newer vioxx and celebrex do.
DETAILS: People using totally non-fat milk may be missing out on an
important cancer fighter. A switch to 1 or 2% fat milk would seem prudent.
