High Sugar Diet Harmful to Bones of Young

"A high sucrose 'table sugar] diet may induce alterations in calcium balance in humans...", is but one of a series of previous studies implicating the dangers of excessive sugar consumption. In a newer report in the Journal Of Nutrition*, scientists tested young animals on a low-fat diet since previous studies often were done with high-fat diets.

They found that it was the sucrose that caused a weakness in breaking strength of bones. Also mentioned was that their previous studies had found weakness in teeth, as had many other researchers before them.

*By Doctors Tjanderhane and Larmas of Inst. of Dentistry, U. of Oulu, 90220, Finland and Oulu U. Hospital respectively. Reported in vol. 128, l998.
