Medication Affecting Your Sleep?
"Sleep is an essential part of our lives. Yet, we know relatively little
about how sleep is regulated or what disrupts it....Many sleep disorders
are associated with medical or psychiatric conditions, but for each
disorder some cases--no-one is sure how many--are induced by commonly
prescribed drugs. Merrill Mitler (Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla,
Cal.,) says that "....doctors must learn to adjust medications and their
timing to minimize these undesirable side effects." ....The Lancet, vol.
359, 2002.
DETAILS: The article goes on to note that L-dopa, taken for Parkinson's
Disease, is a common cause of sleeplessness, as are anti-depressants. If
you are having sleep problems and are taking medication, discuss this
with your physician.
