WHICH PAIN RELIEVERS ARE BEST?

Doctors tested three pain relievers to determine which was the best at their job. They were, acetaminophen (Tylenol (t.m.), ibuprofen and codeine.

The result? "For the treatment of traumatic, 'muscular] injuries, ibuprofen provides the best analgesia 'pain relief] among the three study medicines."

That was from Pediatrics, Amer. Acad. of Pediatrics, Vol. 119, March 2007. By: Drs. Clark, Plint, Passi, et al., Depts. of Pediatrics and Emer. Med., U. of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and Chalmers' Res. Group, Children's Hosp. of E. Ontario, and the Faculty of Health Sciences, Queen's Hosp., Kingston, Ontario.

Editor's comment--Amazing, huh? Codiene, the habit-forming drug was less effective than ibuprofen or Tylenol.(t.m.) And interesting that aspirin, the basis for ibuprofen was not tested. Guess what that would have shown! Of course aspirin has greater risks for children. But then there's children's aspirin. Guess they didn't think of that.
