Doctor-scientists fed high doses of vitamins C and E, selenium and fish oils to cyclists to see whether these ameliorated or eliminated the oxidative stress associated with vigorous exercise.

They found that the vitamins and selenium did reduce some but not all of the stress-effects upon the body. They found also that taking fish oils before such exhausting activity may not be warranted.
