Q:
What
can one do about macular degeneration?
A:
As
usual, we go to the medical and scientific journals to find what science
has discovered.
In this case, helpful info is from--
Opthamology
Journal of Ocular Pharma Therapy
Opthamologica
Amer J of Surg
Amer J of Opthamol
J of Amer Pham Asso
Annals Pharm Fr
One
reports that "....retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration,
glaucoma....'are essentially caused by excessive inflammation..]
"'dark-colored
grapes are helpful,"] says another.
Another
warns against "increased use of thyroid hormones and
antacids."
One
report says, "....CoQ10 'Co-enzyme Q 10] may have a protective
effect."
Another
suggests the eating of spinach.
"....mineral-vitamin
supplementation of women living in developed countries appears to be
warranted," says another.
"Overall,"
summarizes another, "it appears that antioxidant nutrients,
especially those
from food sources, have important roles in preventing pathogenic
'disease causing]
processes related to cancer, macular degeneration, cataracts, ....and
may enhance immune function."
What
foods are rich in anti-oxidant nutrients? We would add to spinach and
dark grapes--
tomato sauce, green tea, broccoli, soy beans and cooked carrots.
