Soft Drinks Found to Increase Risk of Gout in Men

A study of 46,393 men were followed for 12 years to determine what factors pre-disposed men to contracting gout, a particularly painful disease.

Conclusion:  "...data suggest that consumption of sugar sweetened soft drinks and fructose is strongly associated with an increased risk of gout in men.  Diet soft drinks were not associated with the risk of gout."
