Editor's Note: Despite the subsequent popularization of the use of oats to reduce cancer risk, the approval of barley has gone virtually unnoticed.

Consumers can add barley as Alternative Medicine by adding it to soup. Note that packages stating "Pearl Barley" mean that the barley has been stripped of much of its beneficial fiber similar to white bread vs. whole wheat.
