Melatonin For Parkinson's--And Lou Gehrig's Disease?
"Our results further strengthen the notion that molecules that maintain glutathione* balance in the brain represent.....neuroprotective agents for the treatment of 'Central Nervous System illnesses]....where oxidative damage may contribute to mitochondrial 'cell energy center] dysfunction. Examples include Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and 'Lou Gehrig's disease**]" Melatonin was indicated in their report as being a neuro (nerve) protective substance.

*Glutathione in its various forms is a naturally produced enzyme the body produces to prevent oxidative damage to cells. Its prime component is selenium. Please note that selenium is a micro-nutrient, present in minute quantities.

**Its medical term is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

DETAILS: The above cited report was by Drs. Dabbeni-Sala, Floreani, Franceschini, Skaper and Giusti, Dept. of Pharmacology, U. of Padua, 35131 Padua, Italy, and Dept. of Neuroscience Res., SmithKline Beecham, Harlow, Essex CM195AW, U.K.
