The Amazing Mineral
"Selenium is known as an essential biological trace element involved in many 'body] functions such as an antioxidant, moderation of the immune system, and 'prevention] of cancer."

So begins a new scientific paper* on this under-appreciated mineral. Under-appreciated by the mass media, that is. We continue; "'It] contributes to cell survival and proliferation against external 'oxidant] stress.... 'It's] actions can provide a good defense system for cells, so that selenium would be beneficial in protecting cells from oxidative stress factors, AIDS, and ....degenerative disease.

*By Drs. Yoon, Kim, Park et al, Dept. of Biological Sciences, Korea Advanced Institute of Science....Taejon 305-701, S. Korea, in FASEB Journal, vol. 16, 2002.

DETAILS: Selenium is toxic in large doses. We would suggest keeping to total intake, including that in supplements, to under 200 micrograms.
