Zinc and Your Defense System

"While the detrimental 'development] of severe zinc deficiency on the thymus 'where the disease-fighting T cells are produced] in both humans and animals has been well established, the mediating...mechanisms remain unknown...

"In conclusion, 'our studies reveal that] three weeks of dietary zinc deficiency alters specific 'thymus] RNA abundance, prior to alterations in 'T-cell] populations detectable by analysis."

By Moore, Blanchard & Cousins, Center for Nutritional Sciences, U. of Florida, Gainsville, in FASEB Annual Meeting, 2001.

DETAILS: Govt. established recommended intake of zinc is 15 milligrams (mg.) per day. The assumption is that 25mg. would be safe.
