Magnesium and Your Health
"Magnesium (Mg)
possesses a large variety of 'body] functions...making Mg deficiency a
potential health hazard. In most industrialized countries, Mg intake has
decreased over time and is 'less than ideal] in the entire population. Mg
deficiency has been shown to lead to an increased incidence of heart
disease, hypertension, ... stroke and atherosclerosis. In addition to the
unbalanced nutrition, the impaired absorption and increased excretion that
occur in certain diseases (diabetes, alcoholism, etc.,) and drug therapy
(diuretics, cisplatin*, etc.,) can 'induce a condition of magnesium
inadequacy]..."
DETAILS: Magnesium is
found in nuts, beans, soybeans, bran, dark green vegetables and fish.*Cisplatin
is a chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
