SHOULDER INJURIES

back to Shoulder Pain index

Stretching Recommended

The Journal of Sci. Med. Sport, vol. 6, 2003*, reported that 100 tennis players were recruited to study the correlation between "hip internal rotation deficits" and lower back pain. They concluded, "It is likely that the limitation in lumbar** extension in the 'group with pain symptoms] is not only due to decreased flexibility from an increased load on the spine, but also due to a protective mechanism to prevent further exacerbation of the LBP 'lower back pain.] Physical conditioning that includes shoulder as well as hip internal rotation stretching programs should therefore, be essential aspects in the treatment of tennis players with shoulder pain and LBP respectively."

*By Drs. Vad, Dines Altchek & Norris, Hosp. for Special Surgery, New York City.
**Lumbar--pertaining to the loins--near the pelvis. Thus Lumbago is pain in this region.

DETAILS: We do not recommend specific doctors or hospitals. However, we do think that the Hospital for Special Surgery is ill-named, since they do not always perform surgery for physical injury. They are one of the better hospitals for treatment.

There is much more to come on SHOULDER PROBLEMS. Please keep coming. More in a few days.
