Soy Vs. Diabetes & Heart Disease and Aid to Thyroid Function

"Soy products are attracting more and more attention because of their beneficial effects on chronic diseases such as 'heart and blood vessel] diseases, atherosclerosis, and type ll diabetes...

"Dietary supplementation witn soy improves 'heart and blood vessel] disease risk factors by lowering plasma total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol 'the bad stuff] and triglyceride 'also bad] concentrations and reducing the ratio of LDL to 'the beneficial HDL] in both normal and diabetic ...humans..."

In their experiments, the scientists found that the protein part of the soy bean was the most helpful factor. But high intakes of isoflavones (another soy ingredient) also increased thyroxine levels in the animals tested. This might be helpful for those with under-active thryroid (hypothyroidism.) Emphases added.
