Soy
vs. Cancer
It is not surprising to medical scientists
that a soy-based diet reduces the risk of cancer. But a recent report by
those at Wayne State U. and Karmanas Cancer Inst., both of Detroit*, goes
much further. They found action of genistein, an isoflavone component of
soy beans, "...results in the inhibition of cell growth and ultimate
demise of tumor cells. (emphasis added.)
"Genistein, ...(in studies by other scientists,) has been shown to
have antiproliferative effects against breast cancer cellls, leukemic and
lymphoma cells, melanoma cells, lung cancer cells, and head and neck
(cancer) cells."
Plus, additional studies have shown that it was harmful to tumor cells,
but not to normal cells.
Of course, more work is required. Not bad so far, huh?
