It is not surprising to medical scientists that a soy-based diet reduces the risk of cancer. But a recent report by those at Wayne State U. and Karmanas Cancer Inst., both of Detroit*, goes much further. They found action of genistein, an isoflavone component of soy beans, "...results in the inhibition of cell growth and ultimate demise of tumor cells. (emphasis added.)
"Genistein, ...(in studies by other scientists,) has been shown to have antiproliferative effects against breast cancer cellls, leukemic and lymphoma cells, melanoma cells, lung cancer cells, and head and neck (cancer) cells."
Plus, additional studies have shown that it was harmful to tumor cells, but
not to normal cells.
Of course, more work is required. Not bad so far, huh?
