Soy's Beneficial Effects During Cancer Treatment and More
Soy has shown to have many beneficial in the prevention of disease. Could it have uses after illness has occurred? A recent Nutrition and Cancer* report says it may very well have.

One ingredient in soy beans and soy products is called the Bowman-Birk Inhibitor (BBI.) As the researchers pointed out, "BBI can suppress the growth of developed tumors,,, and can 'increase] the effect of common 'agents used in chemotherapy.]

"'Effects of soy ingredients including BBI include not only the inhibition of chemotherapy and radiation-induced gastrointestinal damage and weight loss, but also the inhibition of cell death after heart attack and stroke.]"

DETAILS: Will this rather explosive data reach the popular media? Probably not.  Will oncologists use this harmless food in their work? Some will. But not being a drug, and not being promoted with millions from pharmaceutical companies may restrict its application. However, the reader and those he or she knows facing radiation or chemotherapy may be well advised to discuss it with their physician.
