Researchers at Michigan State University, East Lansing*, have discovered that cherries act in the same way as aspirin and its cousins, ibuprofen and naproxen in relieving the pain of arthritis and gout. And, they do so without the stomach irritation some people get from the drugs.
Wow! Even more surprising, the ingredients that do the job, called anthocyanins, also act as anti-oxidants, and are ten times more potent than vitamins E and C!
The scientists didn't mention it, but the same ingredients are found in dark-colored grapes.
