ALCOHOL, B-12, FOLATE & CANCER RISK
"The
positive 'harmful] association between alcohol consumption and cancer risk
may relate to alcohol's role as a folate antagonist and its suppressive
effects on 'other necessary chemical actions in the body.]...
This report advises the intake
of
vitamin B-12
in reducing cancer risk. And,
"If alcohol is
consumed, intake should be limited to to less than 1 drink a day of any
kind.." Emphases
added.
From:
Journal of Nutrition, vol. 133, 2003. By: L. B. Bailey, Food Science & Human
Nutrition Dept., U. of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611.
DETAILS:
The 25 micrograms of B-12 in most multiple vitamin tables (some have 50,)
is 416% more than the daily requirement. Apparently not toxic even in this
dose, but certainly sufficient to not require taking a separate pill.
