Dr. Atkins was Obese & Had a History of Heart Attacks and High Blood
Pressure
Dr.
Robert Atkins' final medical report (by the Chief Medical Examiner of
New York,) revealed that Dr. Atkins had a history of "MI" 'miocardial
infarction, that is, heart attacks] and CHF 'congestive heart failure]
as well as HTN 'hypertension--high blood pressure.]
Dr. Stuart Trager,
chairman of the
Atkins
Medical Council, demurred.
Dr.
Eric Topol, chairman of cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic, was quoted
by The Wall Street Journal* as saying, "severe heart failure much more
frequently results from heart attacks caused by clogged arteries than
from viruses or infections."
In
2002, Dr. Atkins suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was revived. His
organization, according to The Journal, then disclosed details about his
bout with cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle.
"Indeed," the Atkins doctors group now admits, that "in the last years
of his life, Dr. Atkins had a very weak heart. They revealed that his
measure of his heart's pumping action 'was] characteristic of some heart
transplants."
