DO DOCTORS CARE ABOUT THEIR WOMEN PATIENTS?

"There is a substantial gap between the viewpoint of urologists and the rest of society regarding UTIs 'Urinary Tract Infections]. Urologists spend little time and effort thinking about UTIs. In contrast, UTIs are a major issue for many women.

There is substantial concern about "natural compounds" and probiotics* that allow women to take charge of their health care. It is easy to understand this concern because UTIs are common, costly, and cause considerable morbidity."

By Miller & Krieger, Dept. of Urology, U. of Wash. School of Med., Seattle, WA 98195. In Urol. Clin. N. Amer., vol. 29, 2002.

*beneficial organisms, a factor in a healthy digestive tract. Acidophilus is the leading one, found in yogurt. Click on SEARCH BY SUBJECT on Home Page and then on the letter Y for further info on yogurt, and then to the letter C for chicory, a "pre-biotic."
