Alopecia (baldness) is a condition, apart from male pattern hair loss (a
testosterone situation,) that particularly concerns women. Men too,
especially when it occurs before the age of 40. It is, unlike male
pattern hair loss, an auto-immune condition. So can anything be done
about it? Let's see what the research provides.
Drs. Alexis*, Dudda-Subramanya and Sinha of the Department of
Dermatology, NYU School of medicine, showed how science has proven
the auto-immune nature of alopecia. This is a
clue to affecting change.
From: Eur. J. Dermatology, vol. 14, 2004. *Subsequently moved to St.
Luke's-Roosevelt Hosp., N.Y.C.
NOTE: Anti-inflammatories (AIs) and anti-oxidants act to combat
auto-immune diseases. They include;
aspirin and its lesser
spin-offs, grapes with seeds,
raspberries,
etc.
Testing dogs with
melatonin,
scientists found 18 of 30 dogs showed "Partial to complete hair growth."
